FAQs

Yes. That said, not every one of our team members is currently accepting new patients.

You will book a free 15-minute phone consultation with Dr. Warner or Dr. Loiterstein, and answer a few short questions as you book.

You and Dr. Warner or Dr. Loiterstein work this out together. Sometimes people reach out to us with very clear preferences about who they would like to work with. This is great, and in some cases scheduling/availability and fit of therapist and client align seamlessly. At other times, the person that you hope to work with may not have availability, and/or may not have expertise in the particular issue that brings you in. Certain challenges, like social anxiety, eating disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, are most effectively (and rapidly!) treated with providers who have specialized training, and we may have only one or two people that are able to provide effective care for those issues. Certain other challenges are a great fit for many of us. For example, several of us enjoy working with college students with intense emotions, and are trained to help with this. Rest assured that all of our therapists are excellent, and we will not place you with a therapist in our practice if we do not believe they can be of help. We will, however, do our best to give you names of people that we think may be a better fit!

Not necessarily. Therapy is highly personal and we pride ourselves in patient-therapist fit. If we do not have the right fit for your needs, we will try to help you find someone who is the right fit!

First and foremost, we focus on the goals that you bring to us. It is important to us that your therapist has specific training and experience that is relevant to your particular goals. After that, we consider your specific preferences, and we absolutely consider what has worked, or hasn’t worked, for you in the past.

During the course of therapy, you and your therapist will discuss what goals you’d like to achieve. These goals are related to the issues that bring you to therapy in the first place.

Yes. Dr. Loiterstein is our clinical lead for child and adolescent care and specializes in OCD, anxiety, panic, and selective mutism in children, teens, and young adults. Mick Kelly works with children, adolescents, and families. We also work with parents directly, which is sometimes the fastest way to help a struggling child. Book a consultation and we’ll talk through who would be the right fit.

If you are a new mom and find yourself struggling with either postpartum or perinatal difficulties, mood swings, and other symptoms, we encourage you to reach out to us for therapeutic support. Book a consultation using the button above.

Couples therapy is not intended to be an open-ended treatment. Our therapists ask that couples make a 3 to 4 month commitment to this treatment, meeting once per week for 50-60 minutes.

Start by booking a free 15-minute phone consultation — you can schedule it yourself on our Get Started page. You’ll answer a few short questions as you book, which takes about two minutes and helps us prepare. On the call we’ll listen and recommend the clinician whose expertise and approach best fit what you’re looking for. If you’d rather ask a question first, you can send us a message from that same page.

We know that sometimes things get in the way of making it to your appointment. If both schedules allow, we would always rather move a session than have you miss it. Please let your clinician know as soon as you can. Appointments cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice can be rescheduled at no charge; sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed, are charged the full session fee. Please note that Dr. Riordan has a strict 48-hour cancellation policy. Insurance does not reimburse missed appointments.

Fees vary by clinician, session length, and type of service. Most ongoing therapy sessions at GPS range from $230 to $285, with fees for some clinicians ranging up to $375. We will explain the fee for the clinician we recommend before you schedule. GPS is an out-of-network practice and does not accept managed-care insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare. Many clients receive reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, and our billing specialist can help you understand your coverage. When possible, we can check your benefits before your consultation; otherwise, we will do so shortly afterward. We also provide monthly superbills for reimbursement. You will receive a written Good Faith Estimate before beginning care.

Sessions are typically 45 to 50 minutes. Many people begin with weekly sessions, and you and your clinician will decide together what pace makes sense for you — that often changes over the course of treatment.

No. Our clinicians are psychologists and licensed therapists, not prescribers. Many of our clients see a psychiatrist or their primary care physician for medication alongside therapy, and with your permission we are glad to coordinate care with them.

Often, yes. Many of our clinicians are PSYPACT-authorized, which allows them to provide telehealth to clients in more than 40 participating states, and some of us are also licensed in New York and Massachusetts. When you book a consultation, tell us where you are located and we will let you know who on our team can see you.
